Generation Alpha as a share of each country's population
What percentage of each country is Generation Alpha — the same 194 countries ranked by cohort share rather than cohort size.
Central African Republic leads the 194 countries ranked here on generation alpha share of population at 49%, followed by Somalia at 47% and Mali at 46%. The median country is Vietnam at 23%.
What this measures
Generation Alpha as a percentage of the total national population, calculated from the cohort estimate and the current population.
What it does not
It says nothing about the absolute number of children, and a high share can reflect either high fertility or low life expectancy.
The bottom of the table
Bars are scaled across the full observed range (11% to 49%), not to 100%, so the real spread is visible.
How the values are spread
Where the 194 countries fall
The range from 11% to 49% is split into 10 equal bands, and each bar counts the countries in one band.
| Band | Countries | Including |
|---|---|---|
| 11.3% to 15.1% | 33 | Netherlands, Qatar, Sint Maarten and 30 more |
| 15.1% to 18.9% | 46 | North Korea, Australia, Ireland and 43 more |
| 18.9% to 22.6% | 17 | India, Ecuador, Turkey and 14 more |
| 22.6% to 26.4% | 21 | Belize, Dominican Republic, Lebanon and 18 more |
| 26.4% to 30.2% | 14 | Algeria, Laos, Egypt and 11 more |
| 30.2% to 34.0% | 14 | Marshall Islands, Kenya, Guatemala and 11 more |
| 34.0% to 37.8% | 19 | Côte d'Ivoire, Namibia, São Tomé and Príncipe and 16 more |
| 37.8% to 41.5% | 25 | Benin, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso and 22 more |
| 41.5% to 45.3% | 1 | Mauritania |
| 45.3% to 49.1% | 4 | Central African Republic, Somalia, Mali and 1 more |
How this is built: each band is one tenth of the gap between the lowest and highest value; a country is counted in the band its value falls in, and the top band includes the highest value. Countries with no comparable figure are left out. Chart drawn with Apache ECharts.

Reading the table
This is the ranking that matters for anyone planning services rather than selling products. A country where four people in ten are Generation Alpha has a fundamentally different set of problems from one where one in ten is.
The spread is extraordinary: 49.1% in the Central African Republic against 11.3% in Puerto Rico. That is a factor of more than four between the youngest and oldest populations on the same list, in the same year.
Read this column next to life expectancy and it separates into two causes. In the Central African Republic, Somalia and Mali the share is high because fertility is high. In a few countries it is high partly because adults die younger, which compresses the older end of the pyramid. Those two situations look identical in this table and are not remotely the same thing.

Frequently asked
Which country is the most Generation Alpha?
The Central African Republic, at about 49.1% of the population. Somalia (46.8%) and Mali (45.9%) follow closely.
Which large country has the fewest Alphas proportionally?
Japan, where about 11.4% of the population was born between 2010 and 2024 — roughly one person in nine. Puerto Rico is marginally lower at 11.3%.
Does a high Gen Alpha share mean high fertility?
Usually, but not always. A young age structure can also reflect lower life expectancy, which shortens the top of the population pyramid. Read this alongside the life-expectancy ranking.
How many countries are in this table?
This table ranks 194 countries with a comparable figure, out of the 194 countries profiled on AlphaBetaMinds. The countries in this table hold about 98% of the world population.
