Screen displacement
Definition
Screen displacement is the idea that screen time harms mainly by replacing sleep, movement and conversation.
Why it matters for interpretation
If displacement is the mechanism, the question is not how many hours but what those hours replaced. An hour that displaced sleep is not the same as an hour that displaced boredom.
See [[Displacement hypothesis]].
