Natural increase
Natural increase is births minus deaths, excluding migration.
What it captures
It is the part of population change that comes from the population itself. A country can have negative natural increase and a growing population, if migration more than compensates — several European countries are in exactly that position.
The live counters on this site model natural increase globally, where migration nets to zero by definition.
