Ageing index
Ageing index is the number of people over 65 per 100 people under 15.
What it shows
An ageing index above 100 means a country has more pensioners than children. Japan, Italy and Germany passed that line years ago; several more will cross it before 2040.
It is the clearest single number for the shift this site tracks. See [[Dependency ratio]].
