Sex ratio at birth
Definition
Sex ratio at birth is the number of boys born per 100 girls, naturally around 105.
Why it is tracked
Sustained deviation above about 107 indicates sex selection. It affects cohort composition and, twenty years later, marriage markets.
It also explains why [[Replacement level fertility]] is 2.1 rather than 2.0.
