Cohort effect
Cohort effect is a pattern specific to people born in a particular period, as distinct from their age or the current moment.
The test
If the pattern persists as the cohort ages, it is a cohort effect. If it disappears as they grow up, it was an age effect.
Most generational claims fail this test, because they are made about a cohort that has not aged enough for anyone to check.
