School starting age
School starting age is the age at which compulsory schooling begins — four in the UK and Ireland, six across most of the world, and seven in Sweden, Poland and Indonesia.
The three-year spread
Four in the United Kingdom and Ireland, six across most of the world, seven in Sweden, Poland, Indonesia and several others.
The evidence does not support starting earlier: countries starting at seven show no measurable disadvantage by age eleven. What happens before school predicts more than when school begins.
