Median age
Definition
Median age is the age at which half a population is older and half younger.
A useful single number
A median age of 15 implies a very young, high-fertility population. A median of 49, as in Japan, implies the opposite.
It is the fastest way to estimate what share of a country is Generation Alpha or Beta without needing a full age pyramid.
