Learning loss
Learning loss is measurable falls in attainment relative to expectation, most often used about the 2020–21 school closures.
What the research shows
Losses were largest for the youngest children and for those with fewest home resources. Recovery has been partial and uneven, and the evidence on how much has been made up is genuinely contested.
Generation Alpha is the cohort this happened to.
