Group Work Role Assigner
Roles that stop one pupil doing everything and one pupil doing nothing — generated for the group size you actually have.
Group work roles fix participation but not effectiveness: cooperative learning research attaches two conditions — a task that genuinely cannot be completed alone, and individual accountability — and a task one pupil could do alone will be done by one pupil whatever the roles say.
Group Work Role Assigner
Frequently asked
Why does one pupil always do everything?
Usually because the task can be done by one pupil. Roles redistribute effort at the margins; only a task with genuine interdependence changes the underlying incentive.
Should roles be rotated?
Yes, across a term. A pupil permanently assigned as recorder never practises chairing or explaining, and role allocation tends to calcify around existing confidence.
How do you assess group work fairly?
Individually, on something each pupil produces or explains. Group-only marks are the most common reason able pupils resent group work and the reason less confident ones can disappear inside it.
