Age-specific fertility rate
Age-specific fertility rate is the number of births per 1,000 women in a particular age band.
Why the bands matter
Total fertility rate is built by summing age-specific rates across every band. Two countries with the same total can have completely different distributions — one having children at 20, another at 33.
The age distribution predicts future momentum better than the total does.
