Gen Alpha Christmas List 2026: The Toys on Every Retailer's Hot List, by Age
The toys on more than one 2026 hot list from Argos, The Toy Insider, Amazon and Target, sorted by age, plus what to know before buying an AI toy.
The toys that appear on more than one retailer's 2026 Christmas list are the Paw Patrol Dino Movie Megasaurus, the Primal Hatch Megalodon hatching shark egg, KPop Demon Hunters singing dolls, the Pokémon Pikachu Puppetronic, Gui Gui Mega Slime Haul, CrunchLabs' Crunchinator and Tickle Me Elmo Giggle Max. Common Sense Media advises against AI toys for children 5 and under.
Every big retailer publishes a "hottest toys" list in September or October. Most items on any one list are there because the retailer stocks them. A toy that turns up on several lists from different companies is a much stronger signal of what children are actually asking for.
This page compares the 2026 lists that had been published by 16 October 2026: Argos's Top 20 (UK, 1 September), The Toy Insider's Hot 20, STEM 10 and 12 Under $20 (US, September), Amazon's Top 100+ Toys (US, September), Target's Bullseye's Top Toys (US, 5 October) and Which?'s toy trends for 2026 (UK, 14 October, including John Lewis's top 10).

Two themes run through the 2026 lists. Pokémon turns 30, and it is on every list in some form: trading cards, LEGO SMART Play and an animatronic Pikachu. KPop Demon Hunters, the 2025 Netflix animated film, has become a toy line in its own right, with singing dolls and a foam sword on the lists.

Older Gen Alpha children, now in their early and mid teens, rarely appear on toy lists at all. Their requests tend to be phones, consoles (Target's list includes the Nintendo Switch 2), clothes, skincare and gift cards. If skincare is on the list, read our guide to the Sephora kids trend first.
Before you buy an AI toy
A growing number of plush toys and robots now talk back using AI chatbots. In January 2026 Common Sense Media recommended that parents avoid AI toys for children age 5 and under and use "extreme caution" for ages 6 to 12, after its testing found that 27% of AI toy outputs were inappropriate for children despite protective measures. Our checklist of twelve things to check before an AI toy enters the house covers privacy, microphones and what happens to recordings.
Screens over the holidays
New devices and long days at home push screen time up over the break. If you want a number, Canada and Australia recommend no more than two hours a day of recreational screen time for ages 5 to 17; the American Academy of Pediatrics now asks families to agree a plan instead of a limit. Our screen time recommendations by age compares every country's rules.
Lists still to come
None of these 2026 lists was out on 16 October 2026. This page will add them when they are:
- DreamToys (Toy Retailers Association, UK): usually November.
- Hamleys: its 2025 list came out on 10 October 2025.
- US PIRG "Trouble in Toyland" safety report: published 13 November in 2025.
Walmart's 2026 list has been reported by deal sites, but we could not find Walmart's own announcement, so it is not included above.
