Social Exclusion Tracker

Group-chat and playground exclusion, which is invisible to adults by design — recorded in a form a school can act on.

Quick answer

Social exclusion is the form of bullying most often dismissed because every individual instance is deniable, so what makes it visible to a school is a dated record showing repetition by the same group rather than the severity of any one incident.

Frequently asked

Is being left out the same as bullying?

Not automatically — children are entitled to choose their friends. It becomes bullying under most definitions when it is deliberate, repeated and organised by the same group to isolate one child, which is precisely what a pattern record shows and a single incident does not.

Why do schools take this less seriously?

Because nothing observable happens. There is no incident to witness, no injury and no words on a page, and staff supervising a playground genuinely cannot see it. A written record substitutes for the observation they cannot make.

What helps a child in the meantime?

One reliable friendship outside the group — a club, a cousin, a different class — is what children who came through it most often name. It does not solve the exclusion and it does change what the exclusion costs.
