Glossary
Sleep onset latency
Sleep onset latency is the time it takes to fall asleep after going to bed.
The most robust screen finding
Evening screen exposure delays sleep onset. The effect appears across study designs and age groups, and it is stronger for handheld devices held close to the face than for a television across a room.
It is also the finding with the clearest practical fix, which is why it is the one worth acting on first.
