Screen Time by Day Type
School day, weekend and holiday compared side by side — because a single weekly average hides the entire picture.
A weekly screen time average built from five school days and two weekend days describes neither: two weekend days at six hours each can exceed the entire school week, and holidays reset the baseline that the school term then has to pull back.
Screen Time by Day Type
Frequently asked
Why is a weekly average misleading?
Because school days are constrained by the timetable rather than by any rule, so they tell you almost nothing about a family's actual limits. The weekend is where the decisions happen and where most of the volume is.
Should weekend rules be different?
Most families run different rules and there is nothing wrong with that. What causes problems is having no weekend rule at all, since the day has no natural structure to impose one.
What happens over long holidays?
The baseline drifts upward and does not automatically return. Families who name a return date before the holiday ends consistently report an easier September than those who let the term reimpose it.
