How these pages are made

  • Source: the US Social Security Administration national baby-name data, 1880 to 2025. SSA builds it from Social Security card applications for births in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
  • Many people born before 1937 never applied for a card, so early years undercount.
  • Spellings are counted separately: Caitlin and Kaitlyn are two names.
  • A name has its own page if it was in the yearly top 10 for at least 5 years. That gives 114 names with enough data for a real chart.
  • We give no name meanings or origins, and no estimate of how many people with a name are alive today.
