Age assurance
Age assurance is methods used to establish or estimate a user's age before granting access.
The spectrum
From weakest to strongest: self-declaration, age estimation from behaviour or facial analysis, third-party verification, and hard identity checks.
The stronger the method, the greater the privacy cost. This trade-off is the central unresolved question in child online safety regulation.
