Kindergeld Calculator for Expats 2026

How much Kindergeld you get in Germany in 2026 (€259 a month per child) and whether your nationality or residence permit usually qualifies under § 62 EStG.

Quick answer

Kindergeld in Germany is €259 a month for every child in 2026, whatever your income. Non-EU parents usually qualify with a settlement permit, an EU Blue Card or a residence permit that allows work for at least 6 months (§ 62 EStG); student and training permits mostly do not.

Frequently asked

How much is Kindergeld in 2026?

€259 a month for each child, the same amount for every child, under § 66 EStG. It is not means-tested.

Can non-EU citizens get Kindergeld?

Yes, with the right residence title. § 62(2) EStG lists a settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis or Daueraufenthalt-EU), an EU Blue Card or ICT Card, or a residence permit that allows work for at least 6 months, with some permits excluded, such as those for training, au pairs and seasonal work.

Can I get Kindergeld on a student visa?

Under § 62(2) no. 2(b) EStG a study permit (§ 16b) counts only while you are working, on parental leave or getting SGB III benefits. The Familienkasse decides each case.

Will Kindergeld go up in 2027?

A bill would raise it to €267 a month from January 2027 and €272 from 2028, but on 18 October 2026 it was still in the Bundestag after its first reading on 8 October, so the 2027 amount is not law yet.
