From the 1984 horror film C.H.U.D. ("Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers"). It ranked second in a study of 2026 Google searches for Gen Alpha slang reported by Euronews in September 2026.
Tone check
An insult with derogatory roots: it compares a person to a monster, and online it is often aimed at men with angry, reactionary views. Not a harmless word, and worth asking about if a child is called it repeatedly.
